This Sunday at WEPC
November 20, 2009 10:49:52 AM EST

This Sunday is Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of our church year.  We remember, in this time of business, that it is Christ who is Lord. Our Scripture reading comes from John 18, where Pilate asks Jesus, "Are you king?" We'll sing together, pray together, and participate together in the Lord's Supper.  I hope to see each of you this Sunday at 11:00.  Peace, Chip

READING FROM THE PSALMS                         Psalm 93
"more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the LORD!"

READING FROM THE GOSPELS             John 18:33-38a
"Jesus answered Pilate, 'My kingdom is not from this world...'"

Announcements

GREETINGS to all who worship here. If you are new to the congregation or visiting, please fill out a visitor card from the pew rack and place it in the offering plate. And do come back!

THE FLOWERS in the sanctuary this morning are given in thanks to the glory of God by Bill, Deborah and Adam Robins.

Today is Christ the King Sunday. The festival of Christ the King marks the end of our church year and moves us towards the beginning of Advent, the season of hope for Christ's coming again.  The day centers on the crucified and risen Christ, whom God exalted to rule over the whole universe.  In Christ, all things began, and in Christ all things will be fulfilled.  Today we celebrate Christ as sovereign ruler and Christ's call on us to a loyalty that transcends every earthly claim on our human heart.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA Please circle Sunday morning, Dec. 6, on your calendar.  That day our chancel choir will present its annual Christmas Cantata.  Rumors are circulating that the music is especially beautiful, and also featured will be more than a dozen instrumentalists.  Every Sunday is a great Sunday to worship our Lord God, but we do especially hope that our pews will fill up that morning, in worship of the Lord, and in gratitude to our choir.
